Olive Oil,
Our Past & Our Future

Grove 45 Mission

Grove 45 Extra Virgin Olive Oil focuses on three principles in farming, in business and in giving back. Legacy, Sustainability and Philanthropy are the three tenants of the Grove 45 Philosophy.

By focusing on our legacy and keeping one eye firmly on the past and the other on the future, we can use old-fashioned methods and adapt them to help mold our future. The art of producing extra virgin olive oil dates back to Greek and Roman times and the general concept has not changed much. Our dedication to this ancient art (yes, we truly believe good food is art) in a sleek, modern world allows us to preserve a skill and tradition revered the world over. By remembering where we come from, we have the ability to see where we can go.

Sustainability, in multiple senses of the word, is the second pillar of our company.

Not only do we strive for healthy, sympathetic farming methods with as minimal environmental impacts as possible, but we also look for sustainability in our business practices. By developing long-term relationships with vendors and other partners, we create a symbiotic relationship that helps create and sustain American jobs.

We are also dedicated to reducing Grove 45’s carbon footprint. By working with as many local and American companies, we can limit the distance our materials need to travel before they become part of Grove 45. In 2020, we opted to switch our container to one sourced entirely from 100% recycled American aluminum. By doing so, it allows us to still offer an exceptional product in a container that not only protects it, but also gives a new life to so many recycled soda cans.

Philanthropy is the last of our three principles, which allows us to give back to the community that has supported the Grove 45 name for so long.

Annual donations to the Napa Valley Food Pantry, the Napa Valley Restaurant Worker’s Fund and other groups in the valley as well as working with youth farming organizations to encourage strong farming and healthy water use practices, we’re able to not only impact lives today, but help shape them in the future as well.

Our Story

Entirely female owned and operated, Grove 45 is a small, premium brand of Extra Virgin Olive Oil produced in the heart of Napa Valley.

In November of 2019, mother-daughter duo of Ana and Marcela Hernandez purchased the brand. Both women have a long history of business, entrepreneurship, and a deep love of food.

Ana Hernandez, who graduated from the Culinary Institute of America at Greystone, fell in love with food early on, and olive oil has long been a part of that. Her family owned and ran an Italian restaurant in Guatemala, where she was raised. After moving to St. Helena in 2011, Ana and her family discovered that there were hundreds of olive trees on their new property, the trees planted in the 1880’s by famed Napa Valley wine pioneer Charles Krug. Today, the trees have been coaxed back into production, after having been neglected for over 70 years.

Marcela Hernandez joined her mom in the business after graduating from the business management and law program from the Eller College of Management at the University of Arizona. Marcela then returned to St. Helena and joined her mom in the family business. Side by side, now the mother-daughter pair are working to build one of California's most premium olive oil brands, focusing on craft cultivation, specialty operations and premiere sourcing in order to produce the highest possible quality Extra Virgin Olive Oil, all the while preserving the brand and legacy of Grove 45.
